Custom Cabinets
You’ve decided on remodeling your kitchen and hired a great kitchen remodeling contractor. Now, you’ve got to determine whether you want semi-custom or custom cabinets. A kitchen remodel can be just as expansive as you can imagine with great accessories, gadgets, unique cabinet features and upgraded appliances.
If your budget doesn’t allow for a full kitchen remodel, updating your cabinets is a good way to create a new look in your kitchens for a fraction of the cost. Cabinet staining is the least expensive way to remodel your cabinets followed by cabinet-refacing.
Keep in mind that you can only stain your cabinets darker and not lighter. With cabinet-refacing we remove the cabinet doors and replace them. The most expensive part about any kitchen cabinet remodeling is the doors not the container portion because of the detail and engraving on the cabinet doors.
Kitchen Custom Cabinets
In most cases custom built cabinets are made with ¾” plywood. With custom design cabinets, you are in essence putting together all of the components of the cabinet from beginning to end. No part of the kitchen cabinet is pre-made. Using custom cabinets is the most expensive way to go.
Semi-Custom Cabinets
Semi-custom cabinets can be just as beautiful as custom kitchen cabinets. The plywood is usually 3/8” thick and can either be real or imitation. Bamboo is a material used for semi-custom cabinets that is perfect for the green kitchen! When building semi-custom cabinets sections come partially built and we piece together components of the cabinet. This is less expensive than custom cabinets.
Kitchen cabinets are an important aspect of your kitchen remodeling efforts and nice looking cabinets will make a huge difference. If you have bold taste, you may elect to have custom cabinets with bright colors like in the image to the left, which is considered a more contemporary look for a kitchen. Traditional kitchens have cabinets that are typically wood or neutral colors.
